Bachelor’s Degree (equivalent) or higher. At least 1 year of experience to include clinical research coordination and/or research assistance. Must have experience obtaining informed consent, collecting, maintaining and organizing study information. Must have fundamental knowledge of medical and scientific terminology. Excellent organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written) are required. Computer skills, knowledge of database a must.

Preferred Qualification:

Experience with coordinating clinical studies. Proficiency with database management, specifically, Excel and Access. Comfortable using the basic statistical packages within Excel. Experience working with clinical samples and also performing basic laboratory techniques helpful. Basic laboratory techniques include RNA isolation, protein extraction, western blotting, and quantitative PCR.

Brief Description of Duties:

The short term goals of this project are to identify novel microRNAs in the urine diabetic patients that correlate the microRNAs with the progression of diabetic kidney disease. The long term goal is to test whether these novel microRNA are predictive and/or pathogenic in diabetic kidney disease. The Clinical Research Assistant will have primary responsibility for recruiting patients into the study. The Clinical Research Assistant will participate in the operation and maintenance of a computerized data management system to collect and track data. The critical responsibilities of the Clinical Research Assistant are as follows:

  • Collect and record study data and input all information into the database

  • Obtain informed consent under minimal supervision of the PI and educate participants regarding study requirements

  • Distribute supplies for urine collection to the subjects enrolled in the trial

  • Collect, process and store urines samples prior to laboratory based isolation of exosomes and microRNAs

  • Assist in the activities related to clinical research studies including but not limited to; answering phone calls, screening participants for eligibility, registering subjects with sponsoring agency

  • Maintain source documents and subject files in accordance with hospital procedures

  • Ensure accurate and complete compilation of subject data through chart reviews

  • Assist in the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, site visit and meeting binder

  • Work with biological samples in the laboratory to isolate RNA and protein

  • Other duties as assigned

This is a part time appointment.The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
