Assistant/Associate Professor

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in a Chemistry, Radiochemistry, or Chemical Engineering. Strong background in organic synthesis. Demonstrated track record, in the form of publications, conference presentations or other documentation, in developing and producing novel radiotracers for PET imaging.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working on multidisciplinary teams including imaging scientists and clinical researchers. Experience with in cilico modeling. Experience with receptor binding studies. Experience with in vitro testing of such compounds. Experience developing CNS PET radiotracers and synthesis procedures for 11C and 18F labeled compounds. Ability to work under pressure and to demonstrate good judgement.

Responsibilities & Requirements

Stony Brook University is undergoing tremendous growth under a new President, Dean and Chair of Psychiatry. In addition, our outpatient psychiatry program is expanding to meet the growing need for behavioral health care in the community. We are looking for individuals who welcome the challenge and satisfaction of working with a growing team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, social workers, educators, and researchers who are all motivated to enhance the range of services provided to our community.

The Senior Research Scientist will play a lead role in designing and producing different compounds that could lead to radiotracers for human and animal use, and the development of standard operating procedures for production of these novel compounds. The Senior Research Scientist will work closely with the PET Core and Department of Psychiatry imaging researchers in identifying molecular targets and metabolic pathways of interest for in vivo imaging of psychiatric populations. The Senior Research Scientist will guide

and participate in the development pipeline from the initial discovery phase. Primary duties include:

  • Design and production of candidate compounds that should lead to 11C and 18F CNS radiotracers for human and animal use.

  • Prepare and submit research papers and abstracts/manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals.

  • Submit grant proposals to government and private funding agencies.

  • Train and/or supervise junior trainees (including postdoctoral associates and research technicians).

  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Notes

This is a non-tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible.
